■ 使い方１（つかいかた１）/ Usage 1
Used as a noun ; color is the noun

A: 好きな色は 何ですか？（すきないろは なんですか？）
B: 赤です。（あかです）
A: What is your favorite color?
B: My favorite color is red.

A: 赤と 青と どっちが すきですか？（あかと あおと どっちが すきですか？）
B: 赤のほうが すきです。（あかのほうが すきです）
A: Which color do you like better (more), red or blue?
B: I like red better (more).

Used as an adjective ; to be + color
→ Subject + は／が + (color)
① 私の車は 白いです。 （わたしのくるまは しろいです）
My car is white.
② ジョンさんは 目が 青いです。（ジョンさんは めが あおいです）
literal translation → As for John, (his) eyes are blue = John has blue eyes.
③ 私のかばんは 緑です。（わたしの かばんは みどりです）
My bag is green.

Used to modify noun ; color + adjctive
① 黒いかばんを 買いました。（くろいかばんを かいました）
I bought a black bag.
② 茶色の かばんが 欲しいです。（ちゃいろの かばんが ほしいです）
I want a brown bag.
③ あの白いかばん のほうが 安いです。
（あのしろいかばん のほうが やすいです。
That white bag is cheaper.
